Kickstarter fund at 74% of goal

January 16, 2012
By

I’m reasonably sure you’re sick of me talking about the Kickstarter, but it has to be done. We’ve got 10 days left in the Kickstarter fundraiser, and due to a few new donors we’ve managed to reach $1,261 raised! This means we’re at 74% of our goal, but I know we can reach the top. This is a tremendous goal to have reached in such a short time, but it’s still not enough. You see, if we don’t reach $1,700 by January 26 then this entire fundraiser fails. It’s one of the downsides of Kickstarter, to be entirely honest …...

Kickstarter Day 19: We’ve hit the halfway mark!

January 7, 2012
By

Thanks to the kindness of a few more people, I can now crow to the rooftops that with 19 days left to reach our goal we are now 52% funded! That’s right, Steampunk fans … we’re above the halfway mark to our goal of $1,700 by January 26 at 2:06 pm ET. You’re probably sick of me by this point, given how much I’ve talked about why you should donate your money to us when there’s loads of other causes out there. Especially given times are tough, and it’s right after the holiday season, I can understand why you...

The Doctor Fantastique’s Kickstarter is nearly halfway funded

January 6, 2012
By

I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year, and has enjoyed the first week of 2012! Developments are proceeding apace here at Doctor Fantastique’s. We’re hard at work on the first issue of the 2012 year, writing and editing articles and getting the fiction lineup put together. We’re also at about 42% of our fundraising goal so far — a few recent donations pushed us to $726 raised with 19 days left to go. This means we’ve got under $1,000 left to raise by January 26th! I can almost feel the latest issue printed using offset in...

Brand new Kickstarter campaign and other news

December 28, 2011
By

You might recall back in September I launched a Kickstarter campaign designed to raise money for the first 3 print issues of 2012. That campaign ended up failing for a variety of reasons, one of which I’ve become convinced was because I made the financial goal too ambitious given that we didn’t have nearly the powerful web presence we do now. Our desire to take the print magazine to an offset press hasn’t changed in the slightest despite this failure. As a result, yesterday marked the launch of a brand-new Kickstarter campaign with a significantly more reasonable goal of...

Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders new hires

November 15, 2011
By

You’ll recall that last week I put out the call for a “Few Good Bloggers” to join our staff here at Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders. Well the Steampunk community responded in force, and I’m proud to announce that I’ve added 7 bloggers to the fabulous staff of writers that I already have pulling together brilliant articles for the print and web versions of the magazine. Now, I know you want to meet these new bloggers who you’ll be avidly reading posts from in the coming weeks, so I’ll introduce them now: Aly Grauer, who’ll be writing book reviews,...

Looking for a few good bloggers

November 9, 2011
By

You may or may not remember that a few weeks ago, prior to us changing over to this new website, I mentioned that I’d be interested in adding some dedicated bloggers to the Doctor Fantastique’s Show of Wonders staff. This is that call. We’ve got a number of topic areas on the site — Art, Books, Gaming, Movies/TV, Fashion, and really a ton of stuff I haven’t quite all ironed out yet. Suffice to say if it’s Steampunk, and it’s listed in the menu bar above (or you think it fits) then I want to hear about it. What...
